SFOC was let into a world of Jujubes, Pakistani Mulberries, Triple Crown Blackberries and these were just a few of the plants we encountered this last beautiful, clear Saturday in Huntington Beach, when 30 lucky members of Slow Food Orange County had the opportunity to tour the suburban rare fruit garden of Thom and Karen Henricks. Thom generously shared the wisdom he has obtained from developing this garden for many years, from varieties of fruits that grow best on our area to best practices for grafting (Thom has one apple tree with 26 different varieties grafted on!). Then everyone enjoyed a beautiful spread of slow food goodies in the garden, and some people even purchased souvenir plants to take home. The tour was such a big success that we hope we will be invited back again — the overcrowded garden produces fruit year-round!
Thanks Thom and Karen for showing us the secrets of your wonderful garden!
